How to use WebCHIP!

Recoding Variables
WebCHIP offers you the ability to recode variables for individualized analyses. Any of the variables in the active dataset can be manipulated to combine categories without affecting the underlying data.
In the Recode drop-down box, select the variable you wish to change. A list of the available categories will appear above the large "Combine" button. Select two or more categories, type a new category name, then click "Combine". Any Crosstab or Marginals tables run after this point will display the new, combined variable data.
Say you wished to explore immigration status for those 55 and over. The useful combine feature allows you to combine the categories 55-64 and 65+ for accurate and quick calculations. Using this feature, you'll be able to answer questions like, "What percent of those 55 and older were born in the United States? Of persons in the 55+ age group, what percent immigrated prior to 1980?"
To reset all values to their defaults, simply refresh your browser window.
